What is the UK Electric Car Grant?

The UK Electric Car Grant (ECG) is a Government incentive designed to make electric vehicles more affordable for drivers across the UK.

The scheme offers a discount on eligible brand-new electric cars, helping to reduce the initial purchase price and encourage the transition to zero-emission driving.

Rather than claiming money back after purchase, the discount is applied directly by the dealer when you buy the vehicle, so the saving is immediate.

The scheme launched in July 2025 and is expected to run until at least 2028/2029, subject to available funding.
How the Electric Car Grant Works

The Electric Car Grant has been designed to be simple and hassle-free.

- Grants are available in two bands: £1,500 or £3,750

Electric Car Grant Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Electric Car Grant, vehicles must meet strict requirements set by the UK Government.

Eligible vehicles must:
- Be a new M1 category passenger vehicle
- Produce zero tailpipe CO? emissions
- Have a minimum battery range of 100 miles (WLTP)
- Include at least a 3-year or 60,000-mile vehicle warranty
- Include an 8-year or 100,000-mile battery warranty
- Meet government sustainability and safety standards
- Have a recommended retail price (RRP) of £37,000 or less
