  • How Hybrid Technology Is Shaping the Future of Driving

As the automotive industry continues to evolve, hybrid technology is playing an increasingly important role in shaping the future of driving. With many drivers looking to reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency—without fully changing their driving habits—manufacturers are focusing on innovative electrified solutions that bridge the gap between traditional combustion engines and fully electric vehicles. One of the most distinctive examples of this approach is Nissan’s latest generation of e-POWER technology.

    Hybrid Technology Reimagined

Nissan’s new generation of e-POWER is a unique electrified vehicle technology that delivers a more responsive, quieter and more efficient drive than ever before. Described as “hybrid reinvented”, e-POWER offers a comprehensively re-engineered driving experience designed to combine the familiar convenience of petrol with the smooth, immediate response of electric mobility.

Unlike conventional hybrid systems, e-POWER vehicles are fuelled by petrol and driven by electric. Drivers continue to refuel at a petrol station as usual, but from the moment the accelerator is pressed, the vehicle is powered solely by an electric motor, delivering an electric-feeling drive at all times.

    More Efficient, More Responsive

With the new generation of e-POWER, improvements go further than many might expect. Fuel efficiency is increased to up to 64.2mpg, while CO? emissions are reduced by up to 13.7%, down to 100g/km. Noise levels are reduced by up to 5.6dB, contributing to a quieter and more relaxing driving environment. On a full tank, the system can deliver a range of up to 777 miles.

Performance has also been enhanced. The new sports mode delivers 15 PS more power, and thanks to improved engine calibration, service intervals are extended to 12,500 miles or one year, adding further convenience for drivers.

    How e-POWER Works

The e-POWER system is designed to be intuitive and efficient. The petrol engine produces energy that charges the battery when the vehicle needs it. That energy can either be directly supplied to the electric motor or used to recharge the battery. Importantly, the electric motor alone drives the vehicle’s wheels, ensuring a consistent electric driving sensation.

There is no need to plug in an e-POWER vehicle. Energy is also recovered through regenerative braking, where kinetic energy produced during braking is converted into electrical energy and fed back into the battery, reducing waste and improving overall efficiency.

    A Unique Driving Experience

Because the wheels are powered by an electric motor, drivers benefit from instant acceleration, making it easier to seize gaps in slow urban traffic. The quiet electrified engine helps drivers feel calm and in control, even in challenging driving conditions.

The availability of e-Pedal Step further enhances the experience, allowing a single pedal to be used for accelerating and braking in many driving situations. This can make stop-start traffic and uphill driving more relaxed and enjoyable, contributing to a smoother journey overall.

    Nissan Qashqai e-POWER

This innovative technology can be experienced in models such as the Nissan Qashqai e-POWER. As the original urban crossover, the Qashqai continues to evolve with the introduction of Nissan’s latest electrified powertrain. The Qashqai e-POWER combines the practicality and versatility drivers expect with the benefits of an exciting and unique electrified driving experience.

For drivers seeking additional space and capability, e-POWER is also available in the Nissan X-Trail e-POWER, an all-wheel drive 5–7 seater designed for family adventures.

    A Practical Step Toward Electrification

One of the key benefits of e-POWER is that it removes common concerns associated with electric vehicles. Because the battery is kept charged by the petrol engine, drivers can enjoy long journeys without worrying about range. Improved efficiency means fewer refuelling stops, and the combination of a lithium-ion battery and petrol engine delivers greater MPG compared to mild hybrid equivalents.
